Default New people can't join

I can understand that there are spammers, but there are people who would actually like to join this BBS and are being denied access. I believe if a person is from Pelzer, Williamston or West Pelzer, they should be allowed to join. This can be fixed by asking one question to keep out the spammers. The questions would be what school did you attend high school. A spammer would not necessarily know the schools in this district without research and most of them don't have time for such because they are just going from board to board. Is there any way we can fix it? Pleezzz.

Default denied access

I just checked no new registrations are awaiting approval. Yes we do ban users that have spam type email addresses such bigrichard@buyviagra.com and ip locations in places like Denmark, Russia, China, India, Brazil, Panama, Netherlands, etc. and we spend a heck of alot of time doing it.
We may occasionally make a mistake. We do appreciate your concern because we love new users, the more input the better. If you would please contact an admin in a pm with the info (email address) of the user trying to join.
thx,

Yep. I have it turned off again. I had requested at one time for users to send me a email at webmatser@pwpbbs.com and I would set them up manually. I'll turn it back on for a while and see what happens. After getting 15 to 20 bogus registrations a day it got old fast....

I don't check the board as much as I should but if you ever need us you can always email us.

Thanks

BTW - We do track new users via IP addresses.

I agree with you AA, asking 1 security question should keep out spammers.

I wish it were that easy. These guys have BOTS running that automatically generate accounts and most even get verified and make it to the approval state. Then we have to look to see where they are located and go from there. Since turning it back on yesterday I have received over 40 request of membership and these are the ones that made it thru the spam filters.

Funny thing is that even if you ask a question the answer has to be somewhere in a database and if it's in a table somewhere they will find it. And the war goes on...

If it were me I would definitely turn it back off and have members on here let others know to email you for permission to join. Like you stated before.
